In McKinney, Texas, a young golf prodigy named Kris Kim made history on his PGA Tour debut. At just 16 years old, he became the youngest player to make the cut on tour in nine years. Additionally, he set a new record for the youngest ever to make the cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, surpassing the previous record set by Jordan Spieth in 2010.
Kim’s impressive performances in the first two rounds of the tournament included a three-under-68 and a four-under-67, showcasing his talent and skill on the course. Despite admitting to feeling nervous on the 18th hole as he shot a birdie putt to make the cut, Kim expressed his enjoyment of the experience. He credited his mother, Ji-Hyun Suh, a former professional golfer, for introducing him to the sport at the age of five. Suh now serves as his swing coach, and Kim attributes his love for golf to watching her compete on the LPGA Tour in the 1990s.
Kim’s success in his amateur career includes winning championships like the Boys’ Amateur Championship, European Boys’ Individual Championship and McGregor Trophy last year. Having already achieved success in his amateur career and now making a successful transition to the PGA Tour, Kim currently sits in a tie for 36th place seven shots behind overnight leader Jake Knapp.
