The 2023-24 winter high school sports season has come to a close, and it’s time to recognize the top athletes with the announcement of our Elite All-Star teams. More than 80 athletes from the coverage areas of the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin, Elmira Star-Gazette, Corning Leader, and Ithaca Journal have earned Elite accolades.
The Elite selections were made for boys basketball, girls basketball, boys wrestling, boys and girls indoor track & field, boys swimming & diving, and boys and girls bowling. Separate top athletes were chosen for each sport in the Greater Binghamton region and the Corning/Elmira/Ithaca region. Elite selections were primarily based on voting from coaches, with some input from the sports departments of the newspapers. Not all coaches participated in the voting process.
This year’s standout performers in track and field are highlighted by the Elite 7 Boys Track & Field Team for the Corning/Elmira/Ithaca area and Elite 7 Girls Track & Field Team announced respectively. The elite team is composed of high school track runners that have shown exceptional talent in their respective events throughout this season.
Basketball players also got recognition as the Elite 15 Boys Basketball Team for Corning/Elmira/Ithaca region was revealed. Similarly, an elite team of female athletes was named as Elite 15 Girls Basketball Team to celebrate their outstanding performance during this season. Wrestlers are honored with an elite team as well; this year’s top wrestlers from Corning/Elmira/Ithaca area are showcased through Elite 15 Boys Wrestling Team. Swimmers and divers also received recognition with an elite team; The talented swimmers and divers from Corning/Elmira/Ithaca area are celebrated through Elite 10 Boys Swimming & Diving Team.
Finally, two more elite teams were announced for bowling enthusiasts: The Elite Boys Bowling Team for Corning/Elmira/Ithaca region recognizes high school bowlers who have excelled in their sport throughout this season while acknowledging their achievements through an elite team for girl bowlers as well.
