To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Golf, Volkswagen is hosting a special exhibition in Wolfsburg, Germany. Since its inception in 1974, over 37 million units have been sold worldwide. The Golf has become one of the most popular cars on the market, with an average of 2,000 people choosing a new Golf every day.
The production of the Golf began on March 29, 1974 as a replacement for the Beetle. It was manufactured in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen’s historic headquarters as well as other production sites in Germany and seven other countries. Over the years, eight generations of the Golf have been introduced, with the latest being the Golf 8 presented in 2019.
The new model is available as a plug-in hybrid with a fully electric range of 100 kilometers. It also features voice control and an automated conversation partner based on artificial intelligence. In addition to being environmentally friendly and technologically advanced, the Golf continues to be a popular choice among car buyers in Germany and around the world.
In fact, according to Statista, in 2023, the Golf was the best-selling Volkswagen model in Germany with 81,000 cars sold. The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) reported that nearly a fifth of the cars registered in Germany last year were Golfs. As we celebrate this milestone anniversary for such an iconic car model it is clear that it has left a lasting impression on car enthusiasts everywhere.
