In the near future, residents of Allegheny Township will have a new option for groceries as Aldi is set to open a store in Hyde Park Plaza. Aldi’s planned store is part of the grocery giant’s expansion efforts, with a goal of adding 800 new stores by the end of 2028. The township supervisor, Jamie Morabito, has been actively working to attract new businesses to the township and secured Aldi’s interest with traffic and demographic data.
Since acquiring the property in September 2022, Hyde Park Plaza has welcomed new businesses such as Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and Dollar Tree, adding to its existing 16 storefronts and 564 parking spaces. Currently, Giant Eagle is the only supermarket operating in Allegheny Township. With the addition of larger anchors like Aldi, vacancy rates in Allegheny Township’s plazas are expected to continue declining.
Morabito has been working tirelessly to make Allegheny Township a business-friendly location. His efforts have resulted in around a dozen new stores and restaurants. In order to secure Aldi’s interest in the area, Morabito spent considerable time providing the company with traffic and demographic data. Despite challenges posed by the township’s relatively small population of 8,000 people, Morabito was able to advocate for the township’s potential as a thriving business community.
