Suspect with weapon apprehended in Normal

The 200 block of Susan Drive was the site of a tense standoff between an armed individual and Normal Police at around 10:17 a.m. on Friday. The situation began when officers were called to the area for a subject carrying a knife.

The police department’s crisis negotiation team, Illinois State University Police, and McLean County Sheriff’s Office were all present at the scene as officers surrounded the individual and initiated communication with them. By 11:40 a.m., the situation had been successfully de-escalated, and the police department issued an update that confirmed the scene was secure and no longer active.

There were no reported injuries or threats to the public in this incident, which prompted Normal Police and other local law enforcement agencies to request that the public avoid both Susan Drive and Parkway Plaza drives due to ongoing safety concerns. They also advised staying away from nearby businesses for added safety measures.
