The new Da Vinci Science Center in downtown Allentown will be graced with a vibrant and creative mural thanks to the collaborative efforts of an artist from Bethlehem and hundreds of students. Beginning Thursday morning, about 300 students will gather at the Judith Chase Early Learning Center on Chew Street to begin painting the mural that will be installed on the wall of the science center.
Local artist and Bethlehem Area School District art teacher Carla Majczan has been chosen to work with the students on this project. She has been involved in creating, designing and painting the mural, which will be 120 feet long. The mural is a direct result of the children’s drawings and designs, as Carla had students at the Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers create art and designs based on her lesson plans for art and science. The students produced boxes full of art and ideas, which Carla then sorted through to create the final mural design.
The kids are excited to see their hard work come to life as they start painting Thursday morning. The mural will be installed at the new science center in late May or early June, just in time for its grand opening on May 22. This project is not only a fun and creative way for the students to express themselves, but it also serves as a wonderful addition to the new science center, making it even more exciting for visitors to explore.
