Breaking the Stigma: Dr. Deanna Nobleza’s Pioneering Work as Mental Health Director for the Philadelphia Phillies

Dr. Deanna Nobleza has become the first-ever mental health director for the Philadelphia Phillies, where her primary responsibility is to ensure that the players and coaches are taking care of their mental well-being. She understands that mental health is an essential part of overall health, especially in a demanding lifestyle like professional baseball, which involves rigorous travel schedules and time away from families.

Initially, there were some concerns about the stigma associated with mental health, but Nobleza found that there was a willingness among the team to embrace mental health initiatives and seek help when needed. In her second season, she started sessions with players and coaches to address the pressures of playing in Philly and other mental health issues that may arise.
