The weekend was filled with excitement as several Cal sports teams delivered exceptional performances in various competitions. The Cal men’s golf team finished an impressive second at the Pac-12 championships in Arizona, with Ethan Fang, Sampson Zheng, and Eric Lee all placing in the top-13 individually. This marked a significant milestone for the Bears since 2016 and increased their hopes of earning a bid to the NCAA regionals in May.
On the other hand, the Cal women’s water polo team made history by securing a runner-up spot at the MPSF championships. After advancing to the title game for the first time since 2011, they faced off against UCLA and put up a valiant effort despite ultimately falling short. Standout players like Rozanne Voorvelt and Mary Dempsey made significant contributions to their goal-scoring efforts throughout the tournament. As a reward for their hard work, they will now host the NCAA Championships at Spieker Aquatics Complex for the very first time.
The Cal beach volleyball team also had much to celebrate as they earned a spot in the NCAA championships for a third consecutive year, securing an impressive No. 7 seed. They will face Long Beach State in their first round matchup and are looking forward to repeating their victory over them from last year’s tournament. With six Pac-12 teams represented in the NCAA field, this promises to be a fierce competition, with top-seeded USC aiming for its fourth consecutive national title.
Overall, it was an exciting weekend for Cal sports teams as they demonstrated their skills across different competitions. Their achievements are not only indicative of their talent but also serve as motivation for continued success moving forward into future seasons.
