Persistent car break-ins in busy Dekalb County community causing frustration among business owners

In recent months, a series of car break-ins have left the business owners and workers in a Dekalb County community feeling frustrated and vulnerable. According to police records, there have been 40 break-ins so far this year, all within a one-mile radius around Snapfinger Woods Dr. and Interstate 20. The thieves are using nearby woods and holes in fences as shortcuts and hiding spots, making it easy for them to evade capture.

The thieves are breaking into car windows, quickly grabbing items inside, and running off, always concealing their faces with hoodies. One customer, Quentalyn Stephens, expressed her frustration by saying, “Do something better!” Stephens had her car stolen in the same area last year and knows the feeling of violation that comes with it. Despite warnings from surveillance videos, the presence of daylight, and the number of people around to catch them, the thieves continue their brazen activities without fear of being caught.

Business owners and workers in the area are hesitant to speak out publicly due to their fear of retaliation from the thieves. However, they are hoping for increased police patrols to help deter future break-ins and keep their community safe. They believe that with more officers on patrol in the area, potential thieves will be more likely to think twice before attempting another break-in.
