During Mental Health Awareness month, the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls School Districts are taking proactive steps to support students who may be struggling with their mental health. Director of Mental Health and Resiliency, Jamie Ganski, is passionate about promoting positive mental health habits that can greatly impact a student’s well-being. She encourages students to go outside, drink water, get enough sleep, and have positive interactions with friends and role models.
Ganski also stresses the importance of recognizing signs that a student may be struggling with their mental health. These can include not attending school, being flustered or frustrated, or having difficulty focusing on academic material. Providing students with the necessary mental health support can help them academically by enabling them to focus, be present in the classroom, and learn effectively.
Executive Director of Student and Special Education for the Eau Claire School District, Kaying Xiong, emphasizes that mental health doesn’t have to be seen as a negative thing. She encourages both students and adults to seek help when needed, as support is available for those struggling with mental health issues. By promoting positive mental health attitudes towards mental health can be shifted in a more positive direction.
Xiong stresses that mental health is a journey and it should be viewed in a positive light. She advocates for removing the stigma around discussing mental health and creating a more open and supportive community for those who need help.
