Russian FSB foils terrorist attack at Moscow synagogue

Recently, the Federal Security Service of Russia announced the successful prevention of a terrorist attack that was planned to occur at a synagogue in Moscow during a mass gathering. The suspect, who hails from a Central Asian country, was apprehended on April 10 after providing armed resistance and being neutralized by return fire. Despite this, the FSB has chosen to keep the suspect’s name and citizenship under wraps.

According to the FSB report, the suspect had been in contact with individuals involved in terrorist activities while serving time in prison for a previous criminal offense in his home country. Influenced by these individuals, he adopted the ideology of an internationally banned terrorist organization. Upon his release in November 2023, he moved to Moscow and began preparing for a terrorist act by conducting reconnaissance around a synagogue and acquiring materials for an improvised explosive device.

During a search of his residence, law enforcement officers discovered and seized a ready-to-use explosive device and explosives. This operation prevented what could have been a catastrophic attack on the synagogue in Moscow. The FSB’s prompt action serves as a reminder of their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in the region.
