Max Verstappen has had an exceptional run in Formula 1 over the past three seasons, with 57 race victories, 36 pole positions and a record as the youngest driver to debut in F1 at the age of 17. His outstanding achievements have landed him a spot on this year’s Time 100 list, which includes a diverse range of global icons from various industries.
Among the athletes on this year’s list are Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, rugby star Siya Kolisi who led South Africa to victory in the 2023 Rugby World Cup, and Jenni Hermoso who secured the 2023 Women’s Football World Cup win with Spain. Sean Gregory, Time’s senior sports correspondent, highlighted Verstappen’s incredible driving skills and confidence behind the wheel, noting an incident where he watched the battles on the track behind him during a race.
The Time 100, established in 1999, will host a summit on 24 April and a gala on 15 May. Selected members from this year’s list will be invited to attend. Verstappen has an impressive F1 track record with his move to Red Bull in 2016 seeing him win his first race for the team at the Spanish Grand Prix and famously defeat Lewis Hamilton in a controversial title battle in Abu Dhabi in 2021.
Verstappen’s inclusion in the Time 100 list is not the first for an F1 driver as Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher have previously been recognized in the prestigious list. It remains to be seen if Verstappen will attend the upcoming Time
