From Struggling to Champion: Michael Barton’s Journey in Axe Throwing

Michael Barton of Houston, Texas, is headed back to the World Axe Throwing Championships with his practice partners from Hurling Hatchets. Five years ago, Barton struggled with axe throwing, but now he’s feeling confident about his chances at the upcoming championships in Tulsa.

Barton will be competing in both Hatchets and Knives, setting his sights on winning and giving it his all. According to Kendig, the key to throwing an axe with accuracy lies in hard work, practice, and mastering the technique. Barton believes that being a successful axe thrower is more about mental strength and staying calm during competitions.

As they prepare for the World Championships, Barton, Sanchez, and Kendig are ready to showcase the skills they have honed over the years and demonstrate their passion for the sport. With determination and focus, they are looking forward to making their mark on the competitive axe throwing scene.

In 2016, Barton first tried axe throwing at Hurling Hatchets in Houston. He initially struggled with it but found it intriguing enough to keep practicing regularly. Fast forward five years later and Barton is one of many individuals who have become passionate about this unique sport.

Barton has since become a skilled axe thrower and has competed in various tournaments across the country. His dedication to improving his technique has paid off as he now feels confident heading into the World Axe Throwing Championships.

“I’ve come a long way since my first attempt at axe throwing,” said Barton. “It took me some time to get used to it but I quickly realized how much fun it was.”

Barton’s teammates from Hurling Hatchets have also made significant progress over the years. Jorge Sanchez and Chris Kendig have become proficient at both hatchets and knives and are excited about competing alongside Barton at this year’s championships.

“We’ve put in a lot of hard work over the years,” said Sanchez. “But we believe that our dedication has paid off.”

According to Kendig, mastering the technique behind axe throwing takes time but with practice comes precision.

“You can never be too careful when you’re dealing with sharp objects like axes,” said Kendig.

However, Barton believes that mental strength is just as important as physical prowess when it comes to competitive axe throwing.

“You need to stay calm under pressure if you want to succeed,” said Barton.
