The Frontier softball team emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Caldwell to secure the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference 2A championship at J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex in Wheeling, W.Va. The Cougars managed to score the only run of the game in the opening inning, with Gracie Mendenhall scoring on Kate Congleton’s RBI single. Berentz and Evelyn Armstrong also contributed with hits, but could not add to their tally against Caldwell’s Makayla Mumaw, who tallied 10 strikeouts.
Kate Congleton delivered an outstanding pitching performance, supported by Kaycee Berentz’s key hit in the first inning. Berentz was exceptional on the mound, allowing just one hit and striking out 12 batters in the game. Despite a strong effort from the Caldwell team, Frontier’s pitching and defense proved too much to overcome.
Frontier now prepares to face Shenandoah before heading into the sectional play next week. The upcoming tournament will see Frontier take on Tuscarawas Central Catholic in the sectional semifinals, with their sights set on further success following their championship win. The team’s strong performance in the final will undoubtedly boost their confidence heading into the next phase of competition.
