Google has announced that its generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, Gemini Nano, will soon be available on the standard version of the Pixel 8 smartphone family, starting in June. This news comes after Google previously stated that the large language models (LLM) would not reach the Pixel 8 due to hardware limitations.
However, Google’s vice president of devices and software services, Seang Chau, has now confirmed that the LLM adapted for smartphones will indeed reach the Pixel 8. The optimized model is designed to run generative AI directly on the device, similar to the Pixel 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24 series. This means that users can expect a seamless experience without needing to connect to the cloud.
Google also announced new features coming in Android 14 QPR3 along with this announcement. These include ‘Summary’ in the recorder tool and Gboard Smart Reply. The tool is expected to launch in the next few months on Made by Google Podcast.
In summary, Gemini Nano is set to hit Pixel 8 smartphones starting in June with an optimized model that runs generative AI directly on the device without needing cloud connectivity. New features such as ‘Summary’ in recorder tool and Gboard Smart Reply are also coming alongside this release.
