Humana, a leading health insurer, has announced an expansion of its partnership with Cohere Health for the 2021 prior authorization process. This expansion now includes diagnostic imaging and sleep services, in addition to musculoskeletal issues. The Cohere Unify Platform utilizes AI to accelerate the prior authorization process by predicting denials and providing clinical intelligence to suggest changes to requests before submission.
Initially launched in 12 states, Cohere’s pilot program for musculoskeletal services has been successful enough to expand nationwide. Humana has rolled out Cohere’s offerings across all 50 states, adding cardiovascular and surgical services last year. With this latest expansion, diagnostic imaging and sleep solutions will now be part of the services offered to Humana’s members and providers through Cohere Health.
Siva Namasivayam, CEO of Cohere Health, expressed excitement about the partnership’s ongoing success and how it will improve patient care by enabling faster diagnoses through evidence-based guidelines from medical societies and advanced technology. In February, Cohere secured $50 million in equity funding, bringing their total raise to $106 million. The company has experienced rapid growth since its launch, securing funding and partnerships along the way. Their partnership with Oracle aims to develop genAI services that will automate business processes by combining Oracle’s cloud infrastructure with Cohere’s technology. Additionally, Cohere recently announced integration into Epic, allowing providers to submit prior authorizations directly into their EHR workflows.
Overall, this expansion is a positive step towards improving patient care by streamlining the prior authorization process for musculoskeletal issues and adding new services such as diagnostic imaging and sleep solutions.
