The Austrian archer, Dominik Wiener, displayed exceptional accuracy during the 15-arrow match at the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Mexico. He rarely missed the eight-centimetre 10-ring and only missed the four-centimetre X-ring twice in the first end and once each in the second and third. Wiener reflects on his victory, stating that last year was challenging for him as he did not win anything. Winning in Mexico was an amazing experience for him and he expressed his excitement at being in the country.
This will be Wiener’s first appearance at the Hyundai Archery World Cup, while Jyothi Surekha Vennam will be participating in her second final after Hermosilla last year where she defeated the top-seeded archer from Mexico to secure her spot. Unfortunately, Andrea Becerra narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final as she had a point to lose with one arrow remaining. However, her last shot landed in the eight, allowing Vennam to secure the final berth with a wider nine.
The Hyundai Archery World Cup this season consists of three stages instead of four. Therefore, points accumulated with strong finishes in Shanghai placed archers in a good position to qualify for the final based on rankings. Stage winners like Vennam and Wiener have already secured their spots in the final while the recurve finals will conclude the competition in Shanghai on Sunday.
