European Business Editor Joins The New York Times Company

Gregory Schmidt has been appointed as our new European business editor. In his new role, he will collaborate with reporters in the United Kingdom and across the region to oversee coverage on European economies, efforts towards clean energy transition, and escalating tensions with trade partners. He will also contribute to news coverage from Seoul and help kickstart news before the New York office wakes up.

Greg’s career began in 2007 when he joined the Business copy desk after working at The Miami Herald for seven years. His experience in writing about tech and video games, as well as his interest in real estate, has shaped his journey. He edited the Square Feet column since 2017, which sparked his interest in real estate coverage. In 2022, he worked as a beat reporter on the Real Estate desk, leading to a reporting fellowship at Columbia University.

Greg is originally from Southern California and attended the University of Tampa before pursuing graduate studies at the University of Florida. He started working in the London office last month. We congratulate Greg on his new role as European business editor and look forward to his contributions to our team.
