Maren Louridas, a sophomore at the Naval Academy, has been recognized for her outstanding performance both on the basketball court and in the classroom. This week, she was honored as part of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and also named to the 2023-24 Patriot League All-Academic Team. Louridas is one of only six student-athletes from the conference to receive this prestigious national accolade.
Louridas has been a key player for the Navy basketball team, starting in 60 out of 61 games and scoring an average of 8.7 points per game with a total of 528 points. She has also been a strong presence on the boards, grabbing an impressive 317 rebounds at a rate of 5.2 per game. Louridas is known for her excellent one-on-one defense and has played significant minutes in both her freshman and sophomore seasons, averaging 31.9 minutes per game which currently ranks fifth all-time in Navy’s career record book.
In addition to her success on the court, Louridas has excelled in the classroom, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA in cyber operations over her first three semesters at the Naval Academy. She has received three Commandant’s List accolades and was named to the 2022-23 Patriot League Honor Roll.
The Navy basketball program had an impressive season as well, achieving one of the biggest single-season turnarounds in NCAA Division I. The team increased their win total by 13 games and finished in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Patriot League, just one game out of second place.
