In recent days, North Korea has announced the successful launch of a multiple rocket launcher under the supervision of Kim Jong Un. According to KCNA, the state news agency, the 240 mm shell of the launcher was evaluated satisfactorily during the test. The new technology-equipped rocket launcher is expected to bring about a strategic change in North Korea’s artillery power.
Kim Jong Un has emphasized the importance of carrying out the ammunition production plan qualitatively this year. The country has been subject to UN sanctions since 2006, which prohibit the development of ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons. However, despite these sanctions, North Korea has continued its military programs and declared its status as a nuclear power “irreversible” in 2022. Additionally, Pyongyang has intensified its hostility towards South Korea, designating them as a main enemy.
Russia vetoed a draft resolution in the Security Council extending the mandate of a committee monitoring sanctions against North Korea in March. Since then, North Korea has strengthened its ties with Russia and exchanged weapons for military technologies. Despite international sanctions, North Korea continues to defy them while bolstering its military capabilities and alliances.
