Shane Singletary, RN, of SGMC Health has been recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award for his exceptional nursing care. The award was presented to him in front of his colleagues, patients, physicians, and visitors in recognition of his compassionate end-of-life care that touched the heart of a patient’s family member, Tammy Richardson.
Singletary’s commitment to providing exceptional care was evident in how he handled a difficult situation. In the nomination, Richardson shared her emotional experience of having to make the tough decision to stop life-sustaining measures on her grandmother. After a long and emotional day, Singletary provided incredible support to the family. He treated them with kindness and respect, giving them comfort and reassurance during a difficult time.
At SGMC Health, nurses like Singletary are celebrated for going above and beyond in their care. Nominations for the DAISY award are reviewed by a committee based on criteria such as compassion, teamwork, leadership, attitude, and skills. Each honoree receives a certificate acknowledging their exceptional nursing care as well as a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch made by artists from the Shona Tribe in Africa. Additionally, The Flower Gallery donates a beautiful floral arrangement of daisies in honor of each recipient as an added touch.
Patients and fellow employees are encouraged to nominate nurses for the DAISY award if they witness exceptional care and dedication. To nominate a deserving nurse visit sgmc.org/daisy and share your experience of their extraordinary care.
