In a stunning display of athleticism, Sweden’s Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis broke his own world record in the pole vault discipline at the Xiamen Diamond League meeting. The 24-year-old athlete, who has won Olympic, two-time world, and European championship titles, cleared 6.24 meters on his first attempt at the Egret Stadium. This was an impressive feat as he surpassed his previous record by just 1cm that he set in Eugene last year.
Duplantis began the competition with a clearance of 5.62m before smoothly clearing heights of 5.82m and 6.00m before achieving the new world record. This marked his eighth world record in the pole vault event, cementing his status as one of the top athletes in this discipline. Although American Sam Hendricks finished in second place with a best jump of 5.82m, followed by China’s Bokai Huang in third with a jump of 5.72m, it was Duplantis who truly stole the show with his remarkable performance.
