UAlbany, RPI, and Union men’s lacrosse teams prepare for postseason tournament

The Capital Region is home to three men’s college lacrosse teams that have secured spots in the postseason. In Division I, the University at Albany men’s team has earned a berth in the NCAA tournament after winning the America East tournament championship. They will face off against Sacred Heart at home on Wednesday. The Great Danes have been on a hot streak, winning four consecutive games and seven of their last nine. Their recent victories over Merrimack and Vermont earned them the home field advantage for their NCAA tournament opener.

In Division III, both RPI and Union have also earned berths in the national tournament. RPI, with a record of 16-2, secured an opening-round bye after winning the Liberty League tournament championship against RIT. They will host either St. Mary’s (Md.) or Farmingdale State on Saturday. Only two teams, St. Lawrence and Amherst, have managed to defeat RPI this season. Meanwhile, Union, with a record of 12-5, will host Stevenson (Md.) in a second-round tournament game on Saturday afternoon. A win will give Union the opportunity to play another home game, as Schenectady is one of the hosts for the D-III tournament pods.
