American companies are being urged to stop exporting commodities to foreign parties that may transfer them to Russia for use in the conflict in Ukraine. The US Commerce Department has sent letters to at least 20 corporations, asking them to cease supplying parts that are being used in drones and missiles found in Ukraine. The goal is to hinder Russia’s military efforts by cutting off access to Western technologies.
The US and over 30 other nations have imposed sanctions on Moscow in an attempt to limit Russia’s ability to wage war. However, American components continue to be discovered in Russian weapons left behind in Ukraine. Assistant Secretary Matthew Axelrod announced that letters have been sent to more than 20 American companies listing over 600 foreign parties, asking them to halt shipments due to the risk of products ending up in Russia. Senior US officials are also engaging with company leaders to discuss additional measures to prevent their products from being used by Russia.
