The Allen Parish Community Health Fair in Kinder featured a lively 80s theme with over 30 informative booths on wellness and healthy living, health screenings, a Lunch and Learn session, freebies, food trucks, and more. Gerald Romero from Kinder received vaccination information from Ashlyn Fontonet and Brianna England, both population health nurses for Allen Parish Community Healthcare. They were dressed in stylish 80s-themed outfits to match the event’s theme.
Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana Chairman Jonathan Cernek served attendees a traditional Coushatta dish of chawahka (corn soup) during the fair. Amber Ashworth, Southwest Louisiana Regional Safety Coalition Coordinator, provided tips for safe driving to Brenda Johnson from Kinder. Phlebotomist Devan Fruge of Allen Parish Community Healthcare conducted bloodwork to screen Phyllis Lawrence from Kinder for diabetes and prediabetes at the event.
More than 30 vendors were present at the health fair, offering information, health screenings, promotional items, and more. Gene Ingram, perioperative services director for Allen Parish Community Healthcare, played a giant operation game during the fair. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about their health and the services available in their community, including healthcare and healthy lifestyle options.
