In an exclusive interview with “Vogue”, the Grammy winner opened up about her medical condition, stating that she is “hoping for a miracle” to cure her SPS (stiff person syndrome) that affects her ability to sing and live her daily life. Despite this, Celine Dion is determined to accept her condition and continue to work hard on improving her health.
Dion took a break from her professional commitments in December 2022 after revealing her diagnosis of SPS. Since then, she has focused on physical therapy, vocal treatments, and athletics five days a week. In the interview, she shared how she works on every part of her body, including her toes, knees, calves, fingers, singing voice and more: “I have to learn to live with this situation now and stop wondering why it happened. At first I asked myself: What did I do? But life doesn’t give you answers.”
Despite not knowing the cause of her illness, Dion has two options: either train like an athlete and work very hard or give up completely. She chose the latter and has been working with a medical team ever since. Her goal is to be the best version of herself and see the Eiffel Tower again. Dion credits the love from her family and fans along with first-class medical care as what helped her through this difficult time in her life.
The documentary “Me: Celine Dion” will be released later this year on Prime Video (Amazon). The film will document over a year of footage in which Dion navigates through living with SPS while striving for an authentic life despite being in the spotlight as a celebrity.
