During Public Health Week in Detroit, residents can receive free health screenings from April 1 through April 6. Hosted by the Detroit Health Department, this event does not require appointments, IDs, or health insurance to participate. The department is collaborating with Detroit police precincts, recreation centers, and other community partners to facilitate the screenings and activities.
The theme for this year is “Centering and Celebrating Culture in Health.” Residents can take advantage of various free health screenings and activities geared towards promoting a healthy lifestyle during the week. Some of the screenings and activities offered include checks for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and kidney function, HIV and syphilis testing, fitness classes, CPR training, Narcan training and kit distribution, mental health makeovers, lead screenings, and a men’s panel discussion called “Cuts and Conversations.”
Events will be held at different locations throughout the week at various dates and times. The schedule runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday at the Detroit Health Department office; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m
