Oakland County residents and business owners face challenges after storm damage

Strong winds and heavy rains hit Oakland County, Michigan on Wednesday causing significant damage to some residents and business owners. The storms passed through Southeast Michigan, leaving a trail of destruction that included damage to structures, trees, and power lines.

In Ferndale, some of the worst damage occurred as residents were caught off guard by the force of the storm. Several buildings in Ferndale were damaged by the strong winds, including an apartment complex on 9 Mile Road and Paxton Street. Part of the roof at the apartment complex blew off, injuring a resident on the fifth floor who was taken to the hospital. The extent of her injuries was not immediately clear, but the executive director of the Ferndale Housing Commission mentioned that some residents might need to be relocated to a hotel due to the damage.

Businesses along 9 Mile Road in Ferndale also experienced damage from the storm, including a restaurant, auto repair shop, and vintage store. Vogue Vintage owner Steve Humphreys arrived to find water seeping in from holes in the ceiling and was surprised to discover that the roof had blown off.
