Canadian police have arrested three men in connection with the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in June last year. The crime was attributed to the Indian government by Ottawa. The suspects, identified as Kamalpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh, and Karan Brar, all Indian citizens, were charged with aggravated murder and conspiracy, according to documents filed in a court in Surrey, British Columbia where the crime took place.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating the suspects’ possible links with the Indian government, as they were believed to be part of a group of hired killers involved in three other murders in Canada. Nijjar had been classified as a terrorist by the Indian government due to his support for an independent Sikh country called Khalistan. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had previously accused the Indian government of involvement in the murder, leading to diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
In addition to their involvement in Nijjar’s murder, the suspects are also believed to be involved in other criminal activities including the murder of an 11-year-old boy in Edmonton. The investigation into Nijjar’s murder is ongoing and authorities continue to work towards uncovering the full extent of their criminal activities. This case has raised concerns about political extremism and violence within the Sikh separatist movement as well as tensions between India and Canada over this issue.
