Mother Science, a biotech skincare brand, has recently launched its second product, Retinol Synergist. The formula of this product contains a patented ingredient called Malassezin, which is paired with retinol.
After more than six years of research, including extensive laboratory studies and four clinical trials, Mother Science has published data in peer-reviewed dermatology journals such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2021 and the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology in 2022.
The novel molecule Malassezin has been scientifically proven to be 10 times more powerful as an antioxidant than vitamin C. It helps to safeguard the skin from free radical damage, visibly diminish fine lines and wrinkles in rigorous clinical testing, and improve the skin’s moisture barrier, as claimed by the brand.
Further research on this ingredient has revealed that Malassezin and retinol have complementary effects on the skin by working through different pathways. This complementary action results in synergistic effects, where the combination of the two ingredients produces greater results than they would individually. Malassezin’s soothing properties and skin barrier support help reduce the retinization period, allowing for a stronger product with minimized irritation for faster reduction of fine lines and wrinkles with less discomfort.
In a clinical study, it was found that after four weeks of using Mother Science Retinol Synergist, 94% of participants had firmer skin as measured objectively, 94% noticed a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, 97% had more radiant skin, 91% experienced smoother, more youthful-looking skin
