Sieler and VanBrandt set to face off in weekend matchup

In the Division 4 state finals, Whiteford’s Aly VanBrandt hit a single to start the bottom of the first inning. Two of the top softball hitters in the Monroe County Region, VanBrandt plays for Indiana and leads their team in hitting with a .380 average. Meanwhile, Michigan’s Ellie Sieler leads her team in hitting with a .363 average and recently had an impressive performance, hitting back-to-back home runs and going 7-for-9 in a three-game series. The Michigan vs. Indiana series begins Friday.

In prep baseball, Bedford suffered an 8-3 loss to Warren DeLaSalle despite outpitching them 6-5. However, Bedford committed five errors which led to their defeat. Jace Bloomer and Andrew Kuebbeler had RBIs for Bedford while several players contributed hits.

In youth wrestling, Sullivan Layne of Monroe won a MYWAY state championship during the weekend at Manor Elementary School. Meanwhile, Travis Campbell scored five goals to lead Old Crows to an 8-5 victory over Athletico on the opening night of Winter Session III at LevelUp Training. Rev. Mike Anagbogu scored twice for Athletico.
